NTPL is thrilled to host author Rod Carley discussing his latest novel Ruff, another theatrical odyssey packed with an unforgettable cast of Elizabethan eccentrics. Rod is this year’s Honorary Chair for Next Step Literacy Council’s 2025 Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee.

Rod Carley is an award-winning author of humorous literary fiction, including RUFF (a Canadian bestseller) and GRIN REAPING (longlisted for the 2023 Leacock Medal). His short fiction has appeared in numerous literary magazines. Rod has also directed/produced over 150 stage productions including 18 adaptations of Shakespeare. He was the 2009 winner of TV Ontario’s Big Ideas/Best Lecturer Competition for his lecture “Adapting Shakespeare within a Modern Canadian Context.” In the early years of his career, he was an Assistant Director for the Stratford Festival and was the recipient of the festival’s inaugural Jean Gascon Director’s Award.
