Kanopy includes acclaimed movies and documentaries on-demand from award-winning filmmakers. Browse the collections of top film-festival favorites, classic films, world cinema and popular movies.

Starting August 1, Kanopy play credits will be 7 per month.

Kanopy has thousands of movies and documentaries that you can stream on any device.

  • You can watch 2 films per month, with play credits resetting on the 1st of each month.
  • After clicking “Play,” you have 3 days to watch the film.
  • Loading and playing 4+ seconds of a film counts as a play credit.

You can sign up on the Kanopy app, or get started on the Kanopy site:

  1. Go to NTPL’s Kanopy catalog and create an account by clicking on the orange Sign up button.
  2. Go to your email account to verify your email address.
  3. Add your library card number and password.
  4. Start watching videos.

How is Kanopy free for me?

Just as your library buys books to add to their collection for you to borrow, your library offers a variety of digital resources too – Kanopy is one of their more popular digital resources. Kanopy does not charge you because the public library or university covers all associated costs, allowing you to watch for free with no ads.

Why do I need a library card or university login to sign up?

Kanopy is only available through libraries, so you need to be a member of a participating library to start watching Kanopy.

  • If you are a member of a participating public library, you can start watching by signing up with a valid public library card number and PIN/password.
  • If you are a currently registered student or faculty member of a participating college university, you can start watching by signing up with a valid university login.

What is Kanopy Kids?

Kanopy Kids is our collection of movies and shows for kids available in public libraries only. Your public library offers unlimited plays in Kanopy Kids, so your kids are free to explore enriching, educational and entertaining films and TV series. Click here to check out Kanopy Kids!
